French Class Fun

Often, students and instructors will use their language skills in a practical setting.  Here is Thu Schaeffer, our Intermediate and Advanced French instructor, with several of her French students, at la Madeleine, a French bistro in Columbia.

Scenes from the Catonsville 4th of July parade!

Thu Schaeffer and her French students had a great time at the Catonsville 4th of July parade, riding on CCBC's float. It was a hot day, but lots of fun!

A Cultural Exchange

Our classes are not all about listening, speaking, reading, and writing--culture is an important aspect of learning a language, and we weave it into all of our classes.Thu Schaeffer's Intermediate French I class hosted visitors from Toulouse, in the south of France, for an evening of cultural exchange.  Students were able to practice their French skills, and the French visitors were able to practice their English.  It was a fun and entertaining evening.

Learn a language this summer!

Found a great article recently: 3 Ways learning a New Language Helps Your Brain-Even if You Never Get Fluent. You can

  • become a more intuitive problem solver.
  • get better at learning to do challenging things and making mistakes along the way.
  • shift your perspective by exposing yourself to cultures and experiences that you wouldn't otherwise.
  • improve cognitive functioning.

It would makes you feel really productive with your summer, right? So why not take some time, and do something different? Click here for a link to the summer catalog of classes--world languages begin on page 50.
